平板电脑发展初期
1964年RAND平板出现，它采用无键盘设计，配有数字触笔。使用这支触笔用户就可以进行菜单选择、图表制作、甚至编写软件等操作。这款平板在当时的售价为1800美元（目前约合130000元），由于售价过高所以使用的范围并不广泛。但其却是真正意义上的的首款平板电脑，虽然之前人们在科幻电影中有想象出手触屏幕的产品，但却没有制造出真正的产品，这款RAND平板算的上是真正意义上的首款平板电脑。
