A year ago, I picked up a handheld GPS receiver for hiking, biking, etc. I also discovered that you could Geocache with it. For those of you who do not know, geocaching is a hobby where you use your GPS and handheld GPS receiver to track down caches that are "boxes" (I use quotes because the box can be anything from a box of ammunition in a Tupperware container, a magnetic key holder or even a 35mm film cartridge) hidden in some public place....
"We want people to go out and visit the parks ... and learn a little piece of history," said Dan Melone, program specialist at the Buffalo Grove Park Dist.
Geocaching is a treasure hunt around the world. People playing ("geocachers") use a Global Positioning System (GPS) to find a "geocache". Caches are normally a tube with a sheet of paper for all geocachers to sign. Sometimes there are small items for geocachers to take and leave behind.
All smart phones equipped with GPS and you can download an application Geocaching mobile for easy access. The GPS coordinates of all geocaches are located on the site Geocaching. Users must connect to their point of view. It's free to register.
After finding the geocache the user can log into the geocaching website, so that the whole world can see. There are currently 1,379,829 Geocaches active worldwide. Build your online success with us. Enjoy easy setup w/ no listing fees.
